Our Leadership
BB Energy’s Board of Directors is the principal governance body of the company and has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and management of the Group. The Board is chaired by the Executive Chairman and comprises seven members. Five executive directors ensure a seamless link between the Board and management of the company and two independent non-executive members provide rigorous independent oversight and insight into industry best practice. The Investment Committee, Trading Executive Committee, Compliance Committee, Credit Committee, Market Committee and ESG Committee assist the Board in its duties.

Executive Chairman and Founder
Bahaeddine Bassatne is the Chairman of BB Energy. Over six decades, under his leadership, BB Energy has evolved into a global powerhouse in the oil and energy trading industry. With a steadfast dedication to family values and a commitment to excellence, Bahaeddine continues to guide BB Energy through the ever-changing tides of the global market.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Mohamed Bassatne boasts over 30 years in the energy sector, excelling in business development, trading, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He’s spearheaded BB Energy’s growth, expanding its trading and downstream operations and championing renewable energy initiatives. Mohamed, an MBA holder from Wharton and graduate of Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management (OPM), holds multiple board positions, including at EMEA Wharton School of Business.

Board Member
Haytham Sioufi holds a Bachelor’s in Law. He brings nearly 50 years of expertise in the oil and gas sector. With extensive experience in refining contracts globally and navigating futures trading, he operates across diverse regions including the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the USA, and the Far East.

Managing Director of BB Energy Gulf & Global Head of Bitumen and Liquid Gases
Khaled Bassatne holds a BA in Finance and Economics from Saint Edward and the University of Texas and graduated from the Senior Executive Leadership Programme at Harvard Business School in 2021. After starting his career at Baspet Energy Inc, he then joined the New York Mercantile exchange brokerage firm. He joined BB Energy in 1993 and served in various senior executive roles before becoming Managing Director at BB Energy (Gulf) DMCC in Dubai in 2007. In addition to this and being one of BB Energy Group’s shareholders and board members, in 2011 Khaled was appointed as the CEO of the newly incorporated 3B Group, which covers the entire spectrum of the bitumen industry. In 2016 Mr Bassatne was appointed a board member at Al Cazar Capital Group, where he shapes sustainable investment strategies.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Jacques Erni brings close to 20 years’ of experience in commodities trading; he joined BB Energy in August 2021 and he leads the Trade Finance, Corporate Finance, Treasury, Accounting, KYC, Compliance, Credit Risk and IT teams. He previously served for six years as the CFO at Gunvor Group which was preceded by six years as Group Controller. After Gunvor, Jacques joined Noble Group as CFO in Singapore. His background as a Swiss Certified Public Accountant (CPA) underscores his proficiency in strategic planning, finance, and compliance. Jacques is deeply engaged with the Swiss Fiduciary Chamber and was member of the World Economic Forum until 2019.

Non-Executive Director
Gaby Abdelnour, former Chairman and CEO of J.P. Morgan Asia Pacific, has a globe-spanning career with extensive experience in the US, EMEA, and Asia. He’s held pivotal roles at J.P. Morgan and advisory positions with prominent organisations. Currently, a private investor and advisor to various firms, Gaby holds degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering alongside an MBA from NYU.

Dominic Berretti is a seasoned banking executive with a wealth of experience in commodities and trade finance. He began his career at Banque Worms, Paris, before moving to Société Générale Investment Banking, where he held various leadership positions. Beretti joined BBE as a Non-Executive Director in 2021.

Chief Operating Officer
Christian Fallesen has over 20 years’ experience in the Commodities sector. He joined BB Energy Group as Chief Operating Officer in November 2024. He is directly responsible for multiple core Corporate Functions such as Risk, Operations, Shipping, Human Resources, IT, Data Science, Insurance, ESG and Corporate Affairs and provides strategic counsel to the CEO. Prior to this appointment Christian Fallesen held senior roles within multiple leading Oil & Gas companies. Most recently as a Director for Athens based commodity trader SwissChemGas Ltd. Preceding that appointment he spent 10 years at Petredec Limited, a leading global LPG Trading and Shipping Company, latest as Head of Trading. Previous experience also includes a Board of Directors position with Oslo stock exchange listed Avance Gas Holding Ltd., Regional Manager Middle East for Eitzen Group from 2006 to 2009 and A.P. Moller – Maersk Group from 2001 to 2006. He holds an executive MBA with distinction from London Business School

Ramadan
Global Head of Trading
Rami Ramadan has been with BB Energy for over twenty years, during which he has held several senior positions across the organisation. He began his career in 2006 as a Clean Products Trader, before progressing to Gasoline Trader, Head of Middle Distillates in 2016, and Head of Trading for the UK office in 2020. Most recently, he served as Global Head of Gasoline & Biofuels and Co-Global Head of Middle Distillates. Beyond his trading expertise, Rami has led several key strategic initiatives, including the acquisition of Feedco (now BB Energy Suisse), the launch of BB Energy’s Belgian operations, and the establishment of BB Energy Morocco’s retail network. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as Master’s degrees in Petroleum Economics and Management from IFP School (Institut Français du Pétrole) and in Energy Economics from the University of Oklahoma.

CEO Downstream
Bashir Bassatne is Chief Executive Officer of BBE Downstream, where he leads the company’s storage, distribution and retail operations across a growing international footprint. Before joining the family business, he completed training programs in retail, storage and refining with leaders in the industry. He then began his career in 1995 with Hypco in Lebanon. Starting at the bottom he gained hands-on experience in terminal operations, sales and management roles, ultimately becoming General Manager and Chairman in 2010. He holds a BA in Economics with a minor in Political Science from McGill University and an MBA from the Lebanese American University. Over the course of his career, Bashir has combined operational expertise with commercial leadership, helping to expand downstream assets and service station networks across several markets. In addition to overseeing BB Energy’s downstream business he has played a leading role in oil, storage and distribution projects in Sudan, Malta, Turkey and Jordan, as well as LPG, LNG and power infrastructure initiatives across the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa. Bashir’s current focus is growing the group’s downstream footprint, by developing LPG distribution operations in several key markets in Africa.

Global Head of Renewables and New Ventures
Chahid joined BB Energy in 2020 to oversee the Renewables and New Ventures division. Chahid started his career over 25 years ago in investment banking. He covered the mining and metals industry at Société Générale and before moving to the energy sector while at BNP Paribas. At Glencore he spent a decade originating and structuring deals globally. For BB Energy and Solarcentury Africa Chahid utilises his experience in emerging markets and expertise in energy and mining sectors to make the energy transition journey a success for each of our stakeholders.
